Who?

Sitting here just now minding my own business, and snooping about others’, and I thought I heard something outside. I brushed it off at first because I’m always hearing things. But I kept hearing it. So I went to the door and heard it again.

My ever potty-mouthed 3 year-old asked, “What the hell is that?” (*sigh*)

An owl, in a tree, in my grandpa’s yard, right next door.

Now, can I confess something? They totally creep me out. I have no idea why, but they do. Just the sound. Especially when I am home alone. And the worst part? Every year there is one in the same tree, making the same noises. But do I get used to it? No. I’m a chicken-shit if there ever was one.

Now, if it is light out I don’t have a problem. It’s just when I am home alone at night that they send chills down my spine.

I absolutely hate being home alone at night. I’m not just worried about myself, but the boys. I’m always paranoid that something will happen and what will I do with the boys!? I don’t have a car. I could go next door and wake up my grandpa, but he’s deaf. My parents only live two blocks away, but dragging a three year-old and a three month-old two blocks in the middle of the night, in the middle of an emergency, may not be feasible. I can call my dad, but he doesn’t always hear the phone at night.

Anyway, so there you have it. I’m paranoid, freaked by owls at night, and most likely afraid of the dark.
