Let me preface by saying that I in no way consider myself a professional photographer, or even good. I'm so far from it it makes me sad.
That said, as most know, a few weeks ago I did some family pictures for a friend (K). They turned out decent ... I still don't like them, but she was very pleased with them. That same day I took her pictures, my sister-in-law took her sister's pictures. This friend's sister (J) was less than pleased with the pictures my SIL took, and the only reason she had SIL take them was because SIL has a digital camera and J did not. Following so far?
Well, the friend I took the pictures for (K) showed the pictures to her sister (J) and to SIL. SIL and J were then talking, and J made the comment that she "didn't know Nicole had the fancy equipment to make pictures look like that." To which my SIL replied that yeah, "she worked a long time to make them look like that," and that if she had a camera like mine hers would have turned out like the ones I took.
... Thanks.
The best part? I found this all out from SIL herself. She actually told me about their little conversation, and then acted surprised when I was insulted.
I guess it is my fault, though. SIL showed up at K's that day I was doing the pictures and I was sitting there showing K different things with the pictures on my laptop. I showed her how I could make them black and white, etc.
This is one of the biggest reasons that I dislike being around my SIL. Seriously, she can find even the smallest things to make me feel bad about myself about. She's a passive-aggressive *****. *sigh* I honestly don't know why I still let her get to me like she does. She does it to feel better about herself, and I know that, but I can't let these things go sometimes.
In other news, I sooo had this conversation today:
Them: So I was talking to Kay and I told her about Peyton's tummy problems and crying.
Me: Oh?
Them: I told her you were nursing, and she said that it was almost impossible for him to be allergic to that. She said that there's basically an exchange going on between baby and mom, so that the milk is perfected for him.
Me: Yeah ...
Them: So, like, when you were nursing Jonathan you were making Jonathan milk, and when you were nursing Peyton you were making Peyton milk.
Me: Okay ...
Them: But now that you're mostly pumping, are you like making generic milk?
Me: So ... what ... like Best Choice Boob Juice?
I love life.
One more thing ... if you want to exchange Xmas cards, I need your address before Friday. Email or private message me. I'm making one trip to the post office for these cards and that's it ;) :P
Tomorrow is going to be a very long day. The old man that I lived next door to for about 19 years passed away, and his funeral services are at 10:30. It's like losing a grandparent in a way. He always referred to my sisters and me as Big Peanut, Middle Peanut, and Little Peanut. He always had those butterscotch candies. He always told us he was going to take our cats and make catburgers out of them. And, of course, there's the horseradish. He and his wife have been living in assisted living for the last couple of years, and I am realizing now how bad I was about getting over to see them. I really should have been better about it.
Immediately after the services my youngest sister is going with me to do family pictures for a friend. I was pretty excited about this at first, but then I found out that said friend expects me to do this for free. I'm afraid I'm going to have to be a bitch about it. I'll take the pictures for free, but I'd better see some $$ before she's getting them. Normally it wouldn't be such a big deal, but she's also a friend of my sister-in-law and she tried to set it up so that sister-in-law could see Peyton without apologizing to me. I nipped that one pretty quick. They thought they had out-smarted me.
That night the band I am doing the website for is playing at a local bar, and I am going to go over to get some pictures of them playing and possibly some sound samples of them.
In other news, Peyton is six weeks old today. How is that even possible? His six week checkup isn't until Tuesday, but I'm going to say he's most likely right at, or just under, 12 pounds. All the kid does is eat and sleep (and cry, but that's another story). I'll have to talk to Dr. L about getting him some different meds for his reflux, because the Zantac doesn't seem to be doing anything.
This next week, well really the next couple of months, is going to be busy. I have a website to work on (no, not mine ... for a friend's band), Saturday I am doing a friend's family pictures, and Sunday I am supposed to go to a Passion Party. That may not sound like much, but I also have to get J and P's Christmas pictures done so I can get cards printed (which, by the way, if you want to swap holiday cards private message/email me). Add in the fact that I am trying to do all of this with a 3 year old and 1 month old ... trust me, it is a lot.
I know ... those of you who remember my web design "skills" are going "HUH?" to the website job, but I'm one of the very few people out here in the sticks that even knows what HTML/CSS/etc IS, let alone how to put a site together. And, those who have seen the pictures I take are going "HUH?" again to the family pictures thing. Me, too. Don't know what that's all about, but it'll be fun to get the experience.
And really, this is just the beginning. I mean, it is November (already!?) afterall, which means the beginning of the holiday season. I'm so mixed on this. I love holidays in that I love spending time with my family, eating way too much food, and just the overall feel of the holidays. On the flipside, I hate my in-laws and their ability to completely RUIN the holiday season for me. Luckily, I think my exposure to them this holiday season will be limited due to their recent "stunts", and the fact that Peyton is now over five weeks old and my father-in-law still hasn't been up to see him. Pretty sad, really.
Anywho, it looks like I'll be on my toes for the next week or so. As long as it keeps me busy so I can't sit around and get fat(ter) (like I've been doing for the last few weeks).
